SCORES OF UPDF KILLED IN LOKA, FIGHTING FOR RESOURCES WITH NAS
24 January 2019; Heavy fighting has been reported in Loka, and Greater Fojulu area between National Salvation Front[NAS] forces and a heavily armed contingent of Uganda People's Defense Force [UPDF] According to a reliable source within the UPDF who spoke to this reporter from a Ugandan border crossing at Oroba, Arua. The contingent of UPDF was deployed in a pretext of road construction-engineers and the heavy armours are to provide security protection for the constructors. Among the UPDF were also some westerners whose nationalities could not be established by this reporter.
However, the solid mission was to flash NAS out of Teak rich area of Loka in support of Kiir and to pave ways for logging of well-grown teak for international markets. According to the anonymous source within the camp of UPDF who is based in Oroba, the westerners who were among the UPDF combats are experts who specialize in quality production of timber, their mission to Loka was to inspect the quality of the teak, and help the local Ugandan and South Sudanese armies to process quality an d highly prized timber of the region.
A fighter in the camp of NAS who is under the leadership of General Thomas Cirilo Swaka, former South Sudan's deputy chief of staff, a veteran South Sudan's war of independence general said fighting has been ongoing for the last three days and they have inflicted heavy human causalities on UPDF and their allies, and have also destroyed several military armors.
" We engaged them on three fronts and we have scattered them into the bushes, they attacked us again on Monday after they have reassembled and got military reinforcement, however, they sensed the danger, I think they are still reorganizing for their next move, but we are determined to defeat them, remember this is not Bor of 2013," he said without giving details.
