DOZEN OF UNARMED MEN/CHILDREN WERE ARRESTED BY SPLA IN MUGALI PAYAM, PAGERI COUNTY ON SUNDAY

Nimule, September 12, 2016; Dozens of unarmed civilians were rounded up by SPLA soldiers from Nimule, some of the men and young boys were picked while digging in their fields. There is no apparent reason given by the soldiers as to why they have rounded up the men and young boys randomly.

The raid happened on Sunday evening, and now the arrested men and young boys as young as 14years are currently been kept in Nimule SPLA army barrack without any charge. It was reported on Sunday evening that men and the boys were subjected into harsh interrogation including tortures and other degrading inhuman cruel punishments while they were taken into a secret detention location in Nimule with no access to fresh air and drinking water.

Source in the office of proposed Pageri County, commissioner, Bridger Emilio Igga, who spoke in a condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to speak about the matter. He said Commission Igga, Jerome Surur former deputy governor of EES, chief Abud Surur and Mugali payam administrator went to the army boss in Niguel to demand for the release of the civilians from detention.

However, it is not clear whether the army chief will respect the demand of the civilian leadership and release the men and the boys. SPLA has history of carrying out unlawful arbitrary arrest in some cases used extra judiciary killing against unarmed civilians across Madi land, these unconstitutional and non ethical behaviors by the soldiers were never condemned or challenged before.
